The ELCA Middle School chargers have been working since June 3rd with strength and conditioning to get ready for the 2011 season which opened up last week. We opened with our New Rival Strong Rock down at their new very nice turf field. Most of the boys had never played on turf and it was a treat for them. We Started the game very strong with a 4 play drive that ended in a TD led by 8th grade QB Jordan Long who is a tremendous leader on this team and some great running by #27 Cameron Bragg. The defense went out on the field and took care of business and by half time we had put a lead together 32-0 and felt we were in command of the game. We had some great outside blocking and receiving from a couple of our 8th grade receivers 11 Chandler Reeves and 3 Jacob Luke along with #9 Josh Palmer. Ended the day getting a lot of players playing time and needed game experience with a final of 58-0.
Entered the next week facing a tough North Cobb 8th grade team that had beaten Whitfield the previous week 36-0.We knew we had our hands full when we arrived there and seen the size of their team . We Started off a little rocky but settled down with several nice runs by #31 Chad Clay and 6 Chase Burdette . The Blocking was good all-day and I was proud of the boys being that North Cobb was much bigger then we were on the front line. Our line this year is held together by five 8th graders #63 Zack Green, #45 Griffin Alexander, #28 Christopher Lightsley ,#79 Steven Blackburn and #52 Dalton Hardeman.Once again the Defense was very strong and was led with tackles by Dalton Hardeman ,Sam Shockley, and Griffin Alexander and several more of our 8th grade leaders. We have walker coming up this week and look forward to traveling up to see them.
