Celebrating Diversity

The ELCA Diversity Council
is pleased to host
A TASTE OF ELCA
followed by a family movie night.

Mark your calendars for Friday, March 9! You won't want to miss this special event designed as an opportunity for our families and students to try new cultural dishes, start engaging conversations and enjoy a movie together.

Do you have a favorite dish you'd like to share?
It may be a cultural dish...from Danish cookies to Korean BBQ!
We also welcome foods from different regions of the US, such as rich southern cooking, or Cajun specialties from New Orleans.

Friends and family are welcome to bring dishes as well. Each person is asked to bring a full dish and serving utensils to the event We also encourage people to wear their cultural attire if they have beautiful clothing to celebrate and share their heritage.

The deadline to register your food item(s) is Friday, February 16th. Once submitted, our Diversity Council Coordinator will contact you with further details. Have questions? Contact us at diversitycouncil@eagleslanding.org.

IMAGE BEARERS...all people are created in the image of God.
(Genesis 1:26)

Students at ELCA have the privilege of growing up in a richly diverse student population. As you walk our halls, you get a sense of what Heaven will be like as you see students who come from many different racial and cultural backgrounds. In a focused effort to strengthen our diverse culture, we have established a Council on Diversity to discuss critical issues within our school. The council consists of both parents and staff members who meet on a regular basis to discuss ongoing issues and create strategies for future improvement. Our foundational principle is that all people are created in the image of God. As image bearers, we all have great value in the eyes of the Creator and thus we should treat those who are different than us with that mindset.

The word GRACE describes our focus on diversity within the school...
G - gender
R - race
A - age and ability
C - culture
E - economic ability

All of these groups are represented within our school and are recognized within God's word. Our goal is to teach our students that God has created us in His image and for His glory. As students begin to grasp that concept, they are able to respond to one another in a truly Biblical way.
