ELCA Minimester

WORLD IMPACT DAY was Nov. 9th!  This was a special day for our whole school to come together to celebrate MISSIONS and all the opportunities that God has given us through our Minimester program.   We enjoyed our annual Parade of Nations, skits, videos, great music, and a special message of hope.  The H.S. students went out into the community to serve on that day as well.  World Impact Day will be on Oct 31st, 2012 for next school year.

Minimester extends curriculum beyond the classroom to provide our ELCA families with a cultural, educational and ministerial experience both locally and around the world.

STUDENT TESTIMONIES:

"Well, it was my first time out of the country so I learned a lot...I leaned that alot of the teenagers do not make it to school everyday because they have to work or care for younger siblings.  One of the hardest challenges was seeing all of the underprivileged children at the dump.  I could not help but think, this dump is their life and they may never have anymore than what they do right now.   I've been attending ELCA since k-4, but I was not able to fully grasp what it meant to spread God's Word and His love until my minimester trip to Nicaragua.  Now I realize that as a Christian I'm called to do this and I will."   Ellis Fields

"We went to minister to the Jamaicans but they ministered to us and taught us lessons...the biggest challenge I faced was to accept what God was doing in my life.  Without ELCA we would not be able to do any of these things.  I saw God move in a church service where we danced and sang to God for 2 hours."    Sarah Stone

"One thing that surprised me while in Nicaragua was how happy the people are.  They have absolutely nothing and they are so happy and they trust in God that everything is going to be okay.  One thing I struggled with was myself...Who am I to ever complain about anything when I have so much and they have nothing.  I'm so blessed to be a part of ELCA.  This school helped to prepare me for this adventure in a middle school missions class taught by Mrs. Hornsby and Mrs. Covone, "Students on a Mission".  God revealed himself to me while at the dump, observing people who lived in the trash...it really got me to thinking of God's purpose in my life.  Who am I not to take every opportunity given to me to be used for God's kingdom."  Natalie Brown
