May 13th versus Walker Wolverines: The Chargers went into the second round of the State Playoffs facing the number one team in region 5-A the Walker Wolverines. The Chargers found out quickly why the Wolverines were number one in the region as the Wolverines came out with hot bats and scored four in the first inning. The Chargers faught back to tie the game with a Home Run from Patrick Long but the Wolverines bats were too much for the Chargers as the Wolverines won game one 16-4. Cole Carrera, Will Dellinger, Anthony Gomez and Patrick Busscher all saw the mound for the Chargers.
In game two, Kevin Martin took the mound for the Chargers and did a good job holding down the bats of the Wolverines. The Chargers led in the 3rd 5-4 but the Walker bats woke up and they went on to win 17-8. Cole Carrera had two Home Runs in the Game and Drew Griswell hit a Home Run in his last at bat. It was the end of a great season for the Chargers and the future is bright for the Chargers.
May 7th versus Bowden Red Devils: The Chargers opened the first round of the state baseball playoffs at home on Friday Night, something they have not done in several years, against the 3 seed from region 6 the Bowden Red Devils. Things started off with a bang for the Chargers with a 3 run home run in the first inning by Taylor Barron. The Chargers never slowed down and went on to a 11-2 victory in game one. Other big hitters in game one were Drew Griswell, DJ Curl both with two hits, Barron added another hit including his blast and Cole Carrera had two doubles and three RBI's. Carrera started on the mound for the Chargers and went 6 strong innings with Will Dellinger coming in to close out the 7th. It was a game the Chargers had in control from the start and set the tone for the next game.
In game two the Chargers were visitors and got off to another quick start scoring 3 in the the first, Bowden faught a little harder this game keeping it close throughout until a Triple down the line put it away for the Chargers in the 7th by Levi Haines that cleared the bases. The Charger bats were hot again led by Patrick Long with two solo home runs and 3 RBI's, Haines added two hits and 4 RBI's, Barron with 3 hits and a home run along with Carrera who had two hits and a home run and Kevin Martin with 2 big hits and two RBI's. Corey Westover went 5 solid innings and Martin came in to close it out for the Chargers. The Chargers won 16-7.
It was good to get home playoff wins and the Chargers move on to the second round to face Walker.
April 29th versus Mt. Pisgah Patriots: The Chargers were faced with the task of a must win game to secure 2nd place in the region on Thursday Night. The Chargers were facing the Mt. Pisgah Patriots and the Patriots were fighting also to stay alive in the playoffs. It was senior night for the Chargers and a time to honor Taylor Barron, Drew Griswell, Eric Gailes, Levi Haines, and Patrick Long. It has been a great career for these guys and they will be dearly missed as they move on to college. The Chargers jumped out in the first inning with a big Home Run by Taylor Barron to put the Chargers up 3-0, a Home Run by the Patriots in the 3rd made it 3-1 and the Chargers scratched out another run in the 6th to make it 4-1. Cole Carrera pitched a good game holding the Patriots down and keeping them off balance and with some great help on defense it looked like the Chargers were on the way to an easy victory until the 7th. Carrera ran out of gas giving up a couple of hits and Corey Westover came into close it out after settling down to finish the score 4-3. It was a good night of defense and pitching and a great opportunity to honor our seniors. The Chargers will begin the 1st round of the state playoffs against Bowden on next Friday.
April 27th versus Weslyan Wolves: The Chargers traveled to Weslyan on Tuesday to face the number one team in the Region the Weslyan Wolves. The Chargers needed a win to keep hope alive for a chance at a Region Championship. The game saw Kevin Martin go to the mound for the Chargers and the Wolves sent their ace Devin Stanton to the mound. The Chargers fell behind in the first inning and were unable to recover and lost 12-2 in 5 innings. The Chargers missed some opportunities to make some plays to keep the game close and were unable to generate much offense against the tough Weslyan pitcher. The Chargers need a win against the Mt. Pisgah team on Thursday to finish up second in the region and host a first round playoff game.
April 23rd versus Paideia Pythons: The Chargers moved their game on Saturday to Friday night against the Paideia Pythons due to the weather coming in on Saturday. The Chargers came off a tough loss on Thursday night and were looking to sure up the number two spot in the region. They Pythons came ready to play putting up 2 in the first and 1 in the second with the Chargers matching their efforts to tie the game 3-3 after 2. Chargers pitcher Corey Westover settled in to shut the Pythons down and Will Dellinger came in to close it out in the 7th for the Chargers to hold on to a 7-3 lead. Levi Haines, David Whitis and DJ Curl all stayed hot hitters for the Chargers as the bats were not as lively on this night. The Chargers have a couple of day break before getting back after it against Weslyan on Tuesday.
April 22nd versus Providence Christian: The Chargers saw themselves in a a big region game on Thursday night against the always tough Providence Christian Stars. The Chargers jumped out early to a 4-0 lead with a big first inning with big hits from DJ Curl and Levi Haines. The Stars faugt back to make it 8-4 in the 4th inning with a big inning scoring 5, but as happened throughout the season the Chargers kept on fighting. The Chargers faught back and with a big Home Run by Taylor Barron they took a 10-8 lead. The Stars tied it in the 7th and the game went into extra innings. After trading a couple of runs the Stars broke it open in the 9th and pulled ahead 16-11. It was a tough faught game against the always fun Providence team that saw a lot of hits by both teams and some costly errors. Kevin Martin, Cole Carrera, and Anthony Gomez all went to the mound for the Chargers. It was talked about after the game that this may be the last time these two teams face each other due to the new region alignments. The Chargers hope not as they enjoy this freindly rival.
April 20th versus St. Francis: The Chargers hit the road again on Tuesday night to face region opponent St. Francis Knights. The Knights played the Chargers in a close game the last time they saw each other and the Chargers came ready to play. The Chargers came out hitting and put up 5 runs in the first inning. The Charger Bats cooled a little but they were able to put up 13 runs and win the game 13-2. Anthony Gomez pitched a great game going 5 innings and only giving up two runs. Will Dellinger came in to close it out for the Chargers. Drew Griswell, David Whitis, Patrick Long, Levi Haines, Cole Carrera, and Will Dellinger all had two hits in the game as the chargers put together 15 hits. The Chargers have another big region game on Thursday night against Providence to help decide the region race.
![]() April 17th versus Fellowship Christian: The Chargers faced the Fellowship Christian Paladins for the second time this season on Saturday. The Paladins came in playing good baseball so the Chargers knew it would be a tough test and the Chargers were ready. The Paladins scored 2 runs in the first inning and from there the Chargers never looked back or let up, pounding out hit after hit after hit on their way to scoring 17 runs for the 17-2 victory in 3 innings. Who didn't hit? Everyone up and down the line up hit the ball with Patrick Long hitting two towering shots for home runs and Brandon Barrett hitting a fence rattler to drive in 2 of the 17 runs. Will Dellinger did a great job on the mound holding the Paladins down to get the victory. The Chargers have another full week this week vs. region opponents and they look forward to making a run at the region championship.
April 15th versus Union Grove: The Chargers faced cross town rival and always tough Union Grove Wolverines on Thursday in a game that has no region implications but always has bragging rights around the county. The Chargers put up a quick 9 runs agains the Wolverines led by a two run home run in the first by Patrick Long. The Chargers were able to hold the Wolverines off until the 5th when they scored 6 to make it close but the Chargers held on 9-7. Corey Westover got the win and Kevin Martin the save. The Charger bats stayed hot and it was a good victory for our program. Click on the link below to read the article on the game.

April 13th versus Mt. Pisgah: The Chargers returned from Spring Break to pick back up our region schedule and faced the Mt. Pisgah Patriots. The Chargers found themselves in a tough game trailing 1-0 in the 5th when the Chargers exploded for 10 runs in the inning with big hits all the way up and down the line up. The Chargers added 5 more in the 7th for a 15-1 victory and another region win. Taylor Barron had 4 hits on the night with 4 rbi's as the bats stayed hot for Griswell, Long and Haines as Carrera was able to go all 7 and get the win for the Chargers. The Chargers face cross county rival Union Grove on Thursday and then will finish out the region schedule.
Spring Break Trip to Jacksonville, Florida: The ELCA Chargers took their annual Spring Break Trip this week and went to Jacksonville, FL for a tournament hosted my Yulee High School in Jacksonville, FL. Due to some rainouts, the Chargers had the opportunity to pick up an extra game in Florida against Florida 3A powerhouse Bolles High School. Coach Storm Davis of the Bolles School says "this may be one of the best teams we've ever had here at Bolles" and the Chargers found that out. Bolles pounded out many hits on their way to a 10-0 victory as the Chargers found theirselves down early and hung around throughout the game but just couldn't get anything going offensively. It was a great chance to play a great team. The Chargers started the tournament on Thursday facing the team from North Marion, FL. The Chargers allowed them to hang around but faught hard and with good pitching and some clutch hits the Chargers started the tournament with a 6-4 victory. The Chargers saw theirselves facing a team from Station Camp, TN on Friday mornning and with another good pitching performance and a walk off 7th inning Home Run Blast by Drew Griswell the Chargers came out on top 4-3. The two wins gave the chargers the opportunity to play in the Championship Game against the Sante Fe, FL team and it was a close but good game full of good defense, clutch hits and exection and good pitching. The Chargers got the win 3-1 and won the tournament. The week saw great hitting from Drew Griswell and Levi Haines leading the way. It was also a great week of pitching with Corey Westover, Kevin Martin, and Cole Carrera all getting wins over the week and going deep into their games. April 3rd versus Wesleyan: The Chargers rolled into a big game on Saturday against the always strong Wesleyan Wolves. The Chargers knew that this game was important in the region standings and an important game as the Chargers were positioning theirselves for a region title. A rough start for the Chargers and pitcher Cole Carrera saw those hopes fall in the first inning against the Wolves as they posted 7 runs in the first. The Chargers faught the balance of the game holding the Wolves down and trying to scratch back in the game but it was not meant to be on this Saturday. The final was 8-1 and the Chargers look forward to facing the Wolves in their next match up. The Chargers head out for their spring break trip to Jacksonville Florida. April 1st versus Paideia: The Chargers continued the week with region play traveling to play the Paideia Pythons on Thursday. The day found the Chargers getting off to a slow start getting behind in the game 3-1 before opening it up in the 4th inning scoring 7 to make the score 8-3. The Chargers added 5 more to make it 13-3 and end the game in 5. Eric Gaies and Drew Griswell played a good infield on the day with Levi Haines on the mound and going the distance for the Chargers. After a rough first two innings, Haines settled in and made quick work of the Pythons and finishing out the game. The day saw the Pythons make several errors attributing to the Chargers runs but Drew Griswell stayed hot in the one hole with two hits on the day. The Chargers look forward to being back home on Saturday with another big region game when the Weslyan Wolves come to Charger Field. March 30th versus Providence Christian: The Chargers faced their first really big test on Tuesday night when they faced Providence Christian. It is always a tough game against this very good team and the Chargers knew this was a must win in the region standings with any hope of winning a region title. The Chargers were up to the task winning 9-6. The Chargers started a little slow on the night with two batters reaching base on walks in the first and the Chargers were unable to score the runs but in the fouth inning the Chargers were able to put up 5 runs to take the lead led by a Taylor Barron Home run. A deep shot to left center scored two runs and the Chargers were on their way with big hits from Levi Haines and a sacrifice fly from Senior Eric Gailes the Chargers took a comfortable lead. Corey Westover started on the mound and was fantastic, sitting down tough Providence hitters throughout the night. Kevin Martin came in to close the door again in the 7th as Providence mounted a comeback but Martin was there to close the door. It was another two hit night for Barron, Cole Carrera, Patrick Long, and Haines. It was a good region win and a start to what the Chargers hope is a great week.
March 27th versus St. Francis: The Chargers got an opportunity for their second region game of the week at home versus St. Francis. The Chargers broke out their new white uniforms for the game and it was a great day. The Chargers got off to a slow start again with the game staying close all the way through the 5th inning. St. Francis ran back to back squeeze plays to score two runs in the 5th to take a 5-4 lead. The Chargers were unable to score in the 6th and had their backs up against the wall in the 7th. Will Dellinger led the inning off with a big hit and with two outs, two runners on, and two strikes, Patrick Long drove a fly ball to deep left center where mis-communication between the St. Francis outfielders saw the ball fall to the ground and two runs score to give the Chargers the victory. It was great to get their second region win but it wasn't the type performance the Chargers were looking for moving into this weeks region games. The Chargers have three big region games this week as they continue play before spring break.
March 26th versus Fellowship: The ELCA Chargers started their region schedule on Friday, after a rainout on Thursday, against the Fellowship Christian Paladins. ELCA went on the road to face the Paladins with the Chargers ready to begin region play. Cole Carrera was on the mound for the Chargers and went 6 strong innings only giving up one hit through 5. The Paladins scraped across 3 runs in the 6th but that was after the Chargers, who got off to a slow start had put up 8 runs. It was a good first region win for the Chargers but made them realize that focusing on all opponents no matter who it may be is always a key. The Chargers had enjoyed several home games and they must get ready and adjusted to going on the road as this week they have three tough region games on the road. Taylor Barron stayed hot at the plate for the Chargers with two hits on Friday as this was the first time since the first game of the year that the Chargers were not able to score in double digits. The Chargers look forward to the next several region games and hope to stay hot.
![]() March 20th versus Commerce: The Commerce Tigers visited ELCA on Saturday for a non-region game. The Tigers and Chargers had a great series in the State Playoffs last year with the Chargers winning two games one of which was a 2-1 12 inning battle. Corey Westover started on the mound for the Chargers shutting the Tigers down early in the game. The Chargers took a 6-0 lead in the first inning with the first three Chargers reaching base and Patrick Long knocking them in with a first inning base clearing Grand Slam. The Chargers bats cooled during the middle innings and the Tigers were able to fight back and take a 7-6 lead in the game. In the 6th, the Chargers were able to reach base and with two outs and two runners on, David Whitis stroked a double into the gap to score two runs. Cole Carrera followed Whitis with a Home Run to drive him in and give the Chargers a 10-7 lead. The Chargers added one more to win the game 11-7. Whitis and Carrera both had three hits on the day with Home Runs from the Chargers Long, and Carrera. Freshmen DJ Curl, Jacob Heyward, and Patrick Buscher added much needed fill in time for the Chargers as three Seniors were out on the day with trips. It was a good victory for the Chargers as they improve on the year and get ready for region play in the upcoming week.
![]() March 15th versus Woodland: The Chargers got the opportunity for a makeup game from the rain on Monday night and faced the Woodland Wolfpack another Henry County team and came out on top 10-1 on the night. The Charger bats stayed hot again with Drew Griswell leading the team going 4-4 in the leadoff spot with 3 singles and a double. David Whitis, Patrick Long (home run), and Cole Carrera all had two hits on the night. It was another night of double digit hits and runs for the Chargers as the bats stay hot and our pitching and defense stay strong. Carrera got his first win of the season to bring his record to 1-1 with Kevin Martin coming in strong to close the game out again. The Chargers have two games left against county teams with Henry County coming in on Thursday.
![]() March 9th versus Stockbridge: The Chargers were at home against in-county opponent Stockbridge High School on Tuesday night. Stockbridge came in well improved from last year with a current record of 5-0. The Chargers started off well scoring 2 runs in each of the first 3 innings to take a 6-5 lead. Anthony Gomez started the game for the Charges settling in with good defense again from Eric Gailes. Late in the game Gailes triple, and Patrick Long's double helped the Chargers build an 11-5 lead and a victory. Kevin Martin came in to finish pitching the last three innings throwing well with great command of his effective curve ball. Will Dellinger and Cole Carrera both had two hits on the night as the Chargers bats stayed hot with 9 total hits on the night. The Chargers face another in-county team on Thursday in Woodland and hope to keep the bats hot.
![]() March 5th versus Dutchton: The Chargers faced local AAAA opponent in Henry County Dutchtown High School on Friday Night. The Chargers were anxious to get back in action after being rained out on Tuesday and they showed it in the first inning stringing together 6 hits with the first 7 batters reaching base before an out was recorded and the Chargers had put up 5 runs in the first. The Chargers then went cold only scoring one run over the next 5 innings. The Bulldogs climbed back into the game with hits that seemed to find where the Chargers were not reaching base on balls just out of the reach of the Chargers. The Bulldogs were able to pull back in the game 6-6 going into the 7th. The Charger bats came awake again and a clutch hit by Kevin Martin and David Whitis helped the Chargers to take a 12-6 lead for the final. Corey Westover came in to throw the last 3 innings of the game and get the Win. Coach Cambell told the boys after the game that this team may hit some bumps and may bend a little but they don't break the keep fighting. We hope they can keep it up throughout the year. The Chargers have two more County opponents this week in Stockbridge and Woodland.
![]() February 27th versus Cross Creek and Aquanis: The Chargers traveled to Augusta on Saturday to play a double header against Cross Creek High School and Aquinas. The Chargers first game was against Cross Creek and came up with a victory 16-2. Levi Haines started on the mound for his first appearance of the season and had a great day on the mound. Haines worked through some first inning jams to settle down and shut the Cross Creek team down at the plate. Will Dellinger came in to close out the game and pitched two good innings. The bats stayed alive from Friday night with hits up and down the lineup. Taylor Barron homered in the first inning with Anthony Gomez adding another late in the game for the Chargers.
In the second game of the day the Chargers faced Single A Aquinas and came out with a win 13-2. Anthony Gomez started on the mound and worked through a really good Aquinas lineup holding them to 2 runs in four innings. Kevin Martin came in to close out the game for the Chargers. Corey Westover and Patrick Long both homered for the Chargers with Long's home run being a grand slam. The bats stayed alive and it was a great hitting performance by the whole team with several Chargers with multiple hits. Eric Gailes was solid again at Shortstop with some stellar plays in the infield.
February 26th versus Pike County: The Chargers got their first win of the season on Friday night at home vs. the Pike County Pirates 11-3. It was a night that started off rough for pitcher Corey Westover giving up two home runs in the first inning but Westover settled down holding the Pirates to a total of 4 hits and only 3 runs. Westover got stronger as the game went on and got his first win of the season. Kevin Martin had a great night coming in to close the game out for the Chargers and Kevin was 2 for 3 on the night. Patrick Long led the offense with 3 hits and Drew Griswell had 4 RBI's. The night saw the Charger bats come alive and showed what the Chargers are capable of for the rest of the season. Pike County is winless on the season but typically have a very strong program.
![]() February 23rd versus Woodward Academy: The Chargers opened the 2010 season against the Woodward Academy War Eagles with a 5-0 Loss. It was a tough night at the plate for the Chargers as they were only able to eek out one hit on the night. Cole Carrera opened the season for the Chargers on the mound and gave up 2 runs in 4 innings pitched on 2 hits. Carrera struggled to find the strike zone during the night but managed to pitch out of a couple of jams. He finished the night with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts. Sophomore Kevin Martin came in for relief for Carrera and showed promising results for the young pitcher. Coach Campbell looks for big things out of Martin this season as he is a crafty left hander. Anthony Gomez came in to close out the seventh. The Chargers face Pike County on Friday in another out of region game before traveling to Augusta on Saturday to face a couple of Single A opponents.
