2009 Schedule & Results

CHARGER FOOTBALL 2009
The Charger Football team in 2009 had a great season.  Led by Coach Jonathan Gess, the chargers accumulated a record of 9-3 on the season loosing a heartbreaker to Lincoln County in the second round of the playoffs.  The season saw the end of a great career and season for Senior Darien Hudson and the start of a promising career and season for Freshman Keyante Green.  The Chargers started the season slow with a tough schedule as they searched for their offensive identity and stable personel.  The Chargers lost a second half lead to cross town AA Public School Henry County and fell in their first region contest to the always tough Holy Innocence.  The next trip saw the Charger Offense come alive in a game against A opponent Warren County where the Chargers rolled up 45 points in the first half to cruise to victory. The Chargers rolled through the next 7 Region Opponents with a high powered offensive punch from Hudson, Green, Sophomore John Tatum, Junior Christian Reeves, and Sophomore QB Aaron Spratlin.  The Charger Defense stayed tough as always led by Seniors Marcus Fairley, Haden Henderson and Manny Mitchell with great Junior support from Tanner Rogers, Will Dellinger, Matt Rochelle, Cole Carrera, and Cody Rush.
The Chargers faced Athens Academy in the first round of the playoffs at home and found their selves in a battle, coming from behind in the fourth quarter to gain the lead and go on to victory.  The Chargers second round opponent was Lincoln County.  The drive to Red Devil stadium has become a yearly trip for the Chargers as this was the third time in three years the Chargers have faced the Red Devils.  We have brought ourselves closer and closer to victory every year against this storied program and this year was a great game that saw the Charger Offense put many points on the board but came up short in the end.

The Charger Football program continues to grow and progress each year and this year was a great building block for the future.  We look forward to great things out of this program as they continue to work hard in the weight room, the class room, and on the field.
