Operation Christmas Child
ELCA would like to invite you to join us for another exciting year of Operation Christmas Child, the shoebox project of Samaritan’s Purse that has demonstrated God’s love to children around the world.
Thousands of churches, schools, businesses, civic groups, and other organizations participate in Operation Christmas Child year after year, filling shoe boxes with gifts, collecting the boxes, and helping process them for shipment overseas. Each year millions of children in some 100 countries who face a daily struggle against war, persecution, disease, natural disaster, and poverty received gifts. For many, these were the only Christmas presents they received.
Operation Christmas child is about much more than giving a shoe box gift – it is about spreading the Good News of God’s greatest gift, Jesus Christ. Through this and other programs sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse we are sharing the Gospel with these children and their families through not only these shoe boxes but also literature, evangelism programs, and personal witnessing – and thousands have committed their lives to Christ as a result of this ministry. As one of their partners in Guyana said, “People are not only seeing the gifts, but the love behind the gifts.”
Included with this letter is a brochure which gives you suggestions as to what to put in the shoe boxes. Also included is a Samaritan’s Purse shoe box ready to be filled with items of love. Of course, you may also use shoe boxes from home; however, it is best to use a regular size shoe box and not the larger size. Many stores have regular size plastic shoe boxes that work well also. Please make sure you put your boy/girl label on the box. It is important, too, that you include your check for $9.00 payable to “Samaritan’s Purse”, or follow the online directions in the brochure, to cover the shipping charges. Shoeboxes are to be turned in to your homeroom teacher by Thursday, November 21, 2019.
Thank you for helping us reach around the world with the love of Christ this year through Samaritan’s Purse. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school.
May God bless you for your participation in this mission effort.
