ELCA CLASS OF 2022
The seventy-nine members of the class of 2022 received acceptances into 140 college and universities, 34 which were in state schools, 106 out-of-state. Of those acceptances 69 were public schools, 24 were HBCU schools, 71 were private schools of which 18 were Christian colleges.
Most of the class, 47 students, will remain in state and matriculate to 20 different Georgia schools, with 22 students selecting to attend 19 out-of-state schools (12 different states and Canada). Four students will join the work force, one will take a gap year and five are still deciding on where they will attend college. Seventy-five percent are eligible for the HOPE or Zell Miller Scholarship. Most impressively, the class of 2022 received over 8.1 million dollars in grants, academic, arts, and athletic scholarships.
This brings ELCA’s eight-year scholarship total to over $50 million.
The College Placement and Guidance Office at ELCA strives to provide parents and students information on college resources and to help students stay organized in the college planning process. We embrace the philosophy that a team approach is essential to reach a successful end. Here you will find resources for testing, college planning and admissions, and financial aid.
Parents can be active participants in the college exploration and application process. You should visit campuses with your child and participate in programs offered by admission offices. Other ways to be involved are: making certain your child has been thorough in his/her search; reviewing the admission and financial aid applications and offering guidance in their completion; making certain that tasks get completed and forms are submitted on time; being the support and counselor when decisions are made.
THE COLLEGE PLACEMENT AND GUIDANCE STAFF AIMS TO:
-
Meet with students and parents to identify colleges of interest that complement the student’s academic, extracurricular, and spiritual desires.
-
Write supportive letters of recommendation, where applicable, for student’s admission and scholarship applications.
-
Review students' application and essay materials as requested.
-
Process application materials including transcripts, counselor evaluations, teacher recommendations, and additional components for admission and scholarship applications.
-
Inform students about upcoming college representative visits and college fairs.
-
Guide students on the process of registering for college entrance exams and sending test scores to colleges.
-
Provide students with test preparation resources.
THE COLLEGE PLACEMENT AND GUIDANCE STAFF EXPECTS EACH STUDENT WILL:
-
Be his/her own advocate by utilizing the resources in the College Placement and Guidance Office and by meeting with college representatives who host programs in the Henry County and Atlanta area and at ELCA.
-
Stay in communication with the College Placement Office regarding class selection, the college search, testing opportunities, and application procedures.
-
Take charge of his/her own application process by knowing application and scholarship requirements and deadlines and independently completing each part of the application.

STANDARDIZED
TESTING
ACT-ASPIRE
The ACT-Aspire is given to all students in 9th - 11th grade. This test is used as an introduction to college placement exams and is used for placement in advanced classes. Score results are also used to determine which students need extra tutoring during IF (instructional focus). ELCA registers all students for the test.
PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test)
The PSAT is given in October to all students in grades 9 - 11. The test is used for practice for the SAT and Honors/AP level placement in the High School. ELCA registers all students for the test. PSAT score reports are normally returned after Christmas break. Going over the test – question by question – is a valuable way to improve SAT scores. Students who have questions about their score report should talk with the Academic Dean or Director of College Placement and Guidance.
SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) and ACT (American College Test)
Eagle's Landing Christian Academy school code for both the SAT and the ACT is 112046.
SAT Reasoning Test
Beginning with the winter/spring of the junior year, all students are strongly encouraged to take the SAT Reasoning test if their PSAT results indicate this is their best test. Dates for the test and registration information can be found on-line or in the College Placement and Guidance Office.
ACT
We encourage students to take the ACT if their ACT- Aspire results indicate this is their best test. The ACT is an achievement test measuring English, math, reading, and science skills. Some students naturally respond better to the nature of the questions on the ACT with more ease. Dates for tests and registration information can be found on-line or in the Director of College Placement and Guidance Office.
AP Exams
Students enrolled in Advanced Placement classes are required to sit for the final exam written by the college board. These tests begin the second week of May. The tests are scored on a scale of 1-5 with many colleges offering credit or advanced placement for scores of 3 or higher. The college board provides score results to students in July at apscore.org.

TUTORING and
INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS
PEER TUTORING PROGRAM
ELCA student peer tutoring is a way for high school and rising high school students to receive extra help from other students in math, science, English, Spanish, test prep, etc. Student tutoring is more convenient and more comfortable for students who want help through one-on-one tutoring. Through student peer tutoring, students help other students succeed and develop effective study habits.
Please complete this form if you would like student tutoring and details will be emailed to you. Even if you want tutoring for one time only, please still complete this form. The cost of student tutoring ranges from $10-$20 per session depending on subjects, course difficulty, and availability. (7th grade level and below for 45 minutes is $10.{Middle School Math and Science are $20} Above 7th grade is $20 for 45 minutes. Prices are subject to change in specific circumstances.) Please feel free to ask questions in the comments/concerns section located at the bottom of the form. You can also reach us at elcapeertutor@gmail.com.
If you would like to become a student peer tutor, please fill out this form and details will be emailed to you. You can choose to be a volunteer tutor or a tutor for payment of $0-$20 per hour. If you choose to be a paid tutor, you are required to be a volunteer tutor at IF at least one quarter during the school year. As an ELCA student tutor, you must follow the set rates as stated above. Also, student tutors are required to attend instruction sessions every couple of months. (More details will be given.) Although we are in need of twelfth-grade tutors and tutors who are willing to tutor in the mornings, other tutors are also appreciated.
Contact IF Coordinator, Denise Martin, for more information concerning tutoring.
